Who You’ll Get to Know

Jennifer Abraham smiling, arms folded on a rail in front of a wooden fence

Jennifer Abraham

Founder & Business Owner

Jennifer was raised in Central Texas and has always loved animals. As she found more and more of her free time being spent with dogs, she decided to make her hobby her business. She quit her corporate job in Houston and returned to Salado in 2008 to open the shop. With the help of God, close friends, and family, she was able to create the business that exists today — successful enough to open an expanded location in 2019.

Jennifer is married to her husband John and has two children, along with her dogs, Thor and Lasso, and her cat Snax.

Casey smiling in front of a dog-themed sign on the wall

Casey

General Manager

Born and raised in Texas, Casey’s love for animals started at an early age. As a little girl, she brought home many strays whom she fed and then rehomed. After high school, Casey moved to Pflugerville, where she worked two jobs — one as a kennel tech, the other managing a humane society. Years later she was blessed with a daughter, Rayleigh, who shares the same love for animals as her mother.

Casey came to Paw Retreat in July of 2019 and is now our general manager. When she is not giving her all to her job, she enjoys spending time with Rayleigh, her dog Saus, her cat Chloe, and her bearded dragon Brando — “the Bearded Mando.”

Thalia smiling in a selfie taken in a crowded arena

Thalia

Back of House Manager

Born and raised in Texas, Thalia has loved animals since she was a little girl. Being a military spouse brought her to Central Texas, and she is now four years in managing the kennel at Paw Retreat, where she has met many new friends — many of them of the four-legged variety. Each dog has their own unique personality, and it is always a joy to figure them out.

Thalia has three dogs of her own: Leo, a yellow Labrador, and two Dachshunds, George and Mocha. When she is not at Paw Retreat, she likes to read, binge-watch shows and movies, and cook and bake new meals for her husband.

Tisha in sunglasses, cheek to cheek with a tan dog against a blue metal wall

Tisha

Daycare Coordinator

Tisha was born and raised in Texas, and her love for dogs has been lifelong. After living in many corners of the state, she is proud to now call Salado home. Though she has a special place in her heart for dogs, Tisha has a rare, God-given energy — one that animals instinctively trust and gravitate toward.

Tisha joined our team in February 2025 as a kennel technician and quickly grew into the role of daycare coordinator.

Valerie smiling in a sunlit outdoor selfie

Valerie

Front of House Manager

Raised in Colorado, Valerie has had the unique experience of living all over the world as a military spouse, meeting incredible people and creating homes wherever life has taken her. Now she is proud to call Salado, Texas home, where she serves as our front of house manager.

She loves helping both pets and their people, and she is passionate about animals — especially cats. Whether she is welcoming clients or giving extra attention to a furry friend, Valerie believes every animal deserves kindness, care, and a warm embrace.

Grooming Team

The Hands Behind Every Groom

Rachel holding a small black-and-white dog wearing a red bow

Rachel

Groomer

Rachel grew up in Phelps, New York, where she was raised on her family’s dairy farm. She now lives here with her husband, her two kids, and their beloved family pets. Rachel has always loved animals and dreamed of becoming a dog groomer, and when she arrived here she took the opportunity to follow that dream. She has been grooming at Paw Retreat since early 2014, and her favorite part of the work is the relationships she builds with her clients.

Lena smiling in a selfie, wearing pink pet-print scrubs

Lena

Groomer

Although she was born and raised in Germany, Lena has spent the majority of her life in Central Texas. Growing up she always loved animals and had a lot of pets, so she knew she wanted to work with them when she got older. Lena started her grooming career in 2016 after graduating from the PetSmart grooming academy and has been sharpening her skills ever since. What she loves most about the job is that it never gets boring — every dog who comes in has their own personality, and there is always something new to learn.

Kaitlyn holding a small brown-and-white dog under a large oak tree

Kaitlyn

Groomer

Kaitlyn was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and grew up on acreage surrounded by horses, donkeys, dogs, cats, and guinea pigs. She started her career as a vet tech, then decided to try grooming and instantly fell in love with it. Three years in, she still truly enjoys the craft — it gives her an artistic outlet, and she finds deep satisfaction in creating a positive, happy environment and helping pets feel and look their best.

Kaitlyn has thirteen animals in total: four dogs, one cat, two donkeys, and six chickens. In her spare time she loves hiking, camping, and anything outdoors. She also loves to travel, and her newest goal is to visit every single zoo in America.

Brianna in an orange wide-brimmed hat beside a garden waterfall

Brianna

Groomer

Brianna was born and raised in Central Texas, in the city of West. Growing up on a farm, she was bringing home stray dogs, cats, turtles, and just about anything else from the time she was big enough to pick them up. She holds a BFA in Theatre Performance, with a special expertise in karaoke.

She spent her early career years in retail and office management while also doing theatre and loving her late dog, Diego. Diego is where she began grooming on her front porch at just 18 years old — and why she has a special place in her heart for her “grumpy old puppy” clients. Based in Salado since 2022, you will often find Brianna with her dogs Lucy (Aussie/Chow) and Obi D.O.G. (Jack Russell/Good Boy), trying new places to eat with her husband, James, or watching Bob’s Burgers on repeat.

Nicolette, with long purple hair, smiling by a sunlit window

Nicolette

Groomer

Nicolette was born and raised in Northern California, where her love for animals began at a very young age. Growing up with dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, and even chickens taught her that every animal deserves patience, kindness, and love. Her grooming journey started as a bather before she attended professional grooming school, and from there she built her skills grooming dogs of all breeds, sizes, and personalities. She eventually owned and operated her own grooming business in Northern California.

About four years ago she made the move to Texas and has loved becoming part of this community. Her goal is to make every appointment as calm, gentle, and stress-free as possible — whether a pup is young, senior, shy, or full of energy, she believes every dog deserves to be treated like family. There is nothing more rewarding to her than a happy dog, a wagging tail, and a smiling owner at the end of an appointment.

How We Work

Exceptional Care is a Team Effort

Every successful visit depends on people working together. Our management, daycare, kennel, grooming, and customer-care teams share information and pay attention to changes in behavior, appetite, energy, and comfort.

We also believe pet parents should feel comfortable speaking with us. Those details help our team provide the best care possible.
